A Community Tradition Since 1982

For more than 40 years, the RISD Council of PTAs Used Book Fair has brought books, games, and readers together while giving back to our community.

What began in 1982 has grown into a beloved annual fundraiser powered by volunteers from PTAs across Richardson ISD. Each year, Council Delegates and volunteers collect, sort, organize, and prepare thousands of gently used books and other items, including DVDs, comic books, board games, and video games, giving them a second life with new readers and families.

But this is about more than books.

Every purchase helps support students, educators, and PTAs across RISD.

Proceeds help fund scholarships for graduating seniors, continuing education opportunities for teachers, and programs that support our local PTAs.

From the volunteers who sort the first box of books to the families who fill their bags at the fair, this event is truly a community effort.

Read. Reuse. Give Back.

That’s the tradition of the RISD Council of PTAs Used Book Fair.

SORTING & BOXING REQUIREMENTS

Local PTAs must categorize, count, and properly sort their books and donated items in order to receive credit for their donation.

When sorting and boxing donations:

  • Sort items by category before boxing.

  • Keep each category together whenever possible.

  • Clearly mark the category code on each box.

  • Use a banker's box, copy-paper box, or similarly sized box.

  • Do not overfill boxes. Boxes should be safe and manageable for volunteers to lift and move.

Accurate sorting at the PTA level makes setup at the Used Book Fair faster and helps ensure your PTA receives proper credit for its contribution.
