The RISD Council of PTAs Used Book Fair began in 1982 and provides funds for the RISD Council of PTAs. Proceeds from the bookfair support scholarships for graduating seniors and continuing education for teachers, in addition to supporting our local PTAs.

Additional times will be added for January and February
Books must be sorted and labeled, and you must be able to unload them from your vehicle and move them into the appropriate room.

The following are the categories at the Used Book Fair:
Children's Books
PRE-S Children’s Preschool Books: Picture books with no or few words, Golden Books, Read Aloud books, books with large lettering
BB-F Board, Fabric, & Oversized Books: Non-Paper books or very large books
ELE-LR Elementary Leveled Readers: Books that typically have a 1,2,3 to determine reading level
ELE-SB Elementary Storybooks: Children's book with 1 story - no chapters
ELE-CH Elementary Chapter Books & Series: Stories for ages 7–10 that are written primarily divided into short chapters. Some have a series
ELE-NF Elementary Non-Fiction: Non-Fiction (factual)books for elementary < 12 years of age
YA-F Young Adult Fiction: Fiction targeting ages 12-18.
All Other Categories
AV&G Audio Visual & Games: CD Books, DVDs, Records (LPs), recent software, computer games, Xbox, Nintendo, PlayStation, etc.
BIO Biography: Books about a person's life
BUS Business: Management and running of a business, or in the financial aspects of a business.
C&V Classics & Vintage: Hemingway, Mark Twain, Shakespeare, School assigned books
CB Cookbooks
CHT Christmas: Books about Christmas - only English. Other languages go in FL
C&P Childcare & Parenting: Books about parenting or raising a child. Potty training, Sleep training Etc..
COM Comic Books: Comic books or any illustrated books (graphic novels)
FA Fine Arts: Art, Drama, Dance, Music, Poetry
FL Foreign Language: Books or AV&G written in any language except English
GF-HA General Fiction Adult Hardback: All Adult Hardback Books - except Romance (ROM)
GF-PB General Fiction Adult Paperback: Adult Paperback –includes mystery/suspense, western and science fiction - except Romance (ROM)
HF&S Health, Fitness, & Sports: exercise, diet, medical, sports, games
HGP History, Government, & Political Science: Historical events, systems of governance and power, political books, constitutions and laws.
H&G Home & Garden: gardening, home improvement, antiques, auto repair, needlework, how-to-books, includes humor (joke books)
P&A Pets & Animals: Books about animals or pet training
REL Religion: bibles, religious books, bible study
REF Reference: dictionaries, thesaurus, atlas, encyclopedias, medical journals
ROM Romance Novels: Romance Adult Fiction - paperback and hardback
SCI Science: Biology, Geology, Chemistry, Physics, Astronomy, etc.
SP&CT Special Books & Coffee Table Books: Coffee table books, antique/rare books, etc.
SS Social Science & Self Improvement: Sociology, Psychology, Philosophy, Self-Help, etc. (Mental Improvement)
T Travel: Rick Stein, Frommers, Travelocity, Books about Locations
TXT Textbooks: School or College Textbooks or Testing Books (ACT, GMAT)
Local PTAs must categorize, count and properly sort their books to get credit for their donation
When sorting books, put your books / items in a banker's box, copy paper box, or similar size boxes.
