RISD Council of PTAs Used Book Fair

The RISD Council of PTAs Used Book Fair began in 1982 and provides funds for the RISD Council of PTAs Scholarship Fund in memory of Dr. J.J. Pearce.  Council Delegates at local units coordinate the collection, sorting and delivery of books. It takes volunteers at all levels of local and council PTA to make this project the successful fundraiser and community service that it is.

When you take time to go through your books at home and volunteer to work during the annual event (see links below), you are helping make a difference for a teacher, a student, as well as our community. And, be sure to be a customer.

Dear RISD Council of PTAs

I just wanted to again express my gratitude to you and the RISD Council of PTAs for all of your hard work in putting on the Used Book Fair each year.  With money donated from our campus PTA, we were able to come on the UBF’s staff day this year to purchase bags of books for the students at my school.  As part of our Read Across America Day event on March 1st, we hosted a “Book Bonanza” in which each student was able to choose a book (from the Used Book Fair) to keep.  Without this event, we would not have the resources to be able to put a book into the hands of each and every child at MTE in this way.  As a reading specialist at a Title I campus, I am always looking for more ways to encourage enthusiasm for reading and to put books into the hands and homes of the students at my school.  Thank you for your help in doing this.  There is something magical to a child about owning a book, putting his/her name inside, and reading it again and again.  You have allowed this to happen for the 580 kids at Mark Twain Elementary.  Thank you, thank you.

Most Sincerely,

Liz Bernfeld, M.A.
